The Mercedes-Benz grand tourer has been given a facelift for the new year with the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. Packed with cutting edge technology, this new Mercedes-Benz looks better than ever, and is simply an amazing experience to drive.
From first impressions, a lot has been refined. The lines of this classic car have been caressed, resulting in a longer hood with a wide, powerful rear to give a really strong impression of raciness. The lines are elegant but powerfully sculpted, and even the headlights have a sleek new slanting look to them.
Inside the car, the SL-Class's entertainment, navigation, and diagnostic features are all accessible via an easy-to-use screen. The COMAND system also features Bluetooth connectivity, so when you engage that sound system, you can stream music and playlists from your smartphone wirelessly, which is still an effortlessly cool feature.
Under the hood, however, the slick technology makes way for some serious mechanical power. The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V8 engine that delivers an impressive 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The engine is controlled by a seven speed driver-adaptive automatic transmission as well as an ECO start/stop function as standard. All this power means that the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class can accelerate from 0-60 in a very impressive 4.5 seconds. That's very solidly into proper supercar territory while being a truly luxurious grand-tourer!
The SL-Class is also designed to be a safe ride, with a full compliment of safety features, including plenty of airbags to protect drivers and passengers in the event of a crash, and not only that but Mercedes-Benz has also been scratching their heads over the next generation of safety equipment. If the worst should happen while you're driving the 2013 SL-Class, both passengers and drivers are protected not only by the airbags, but by a brand new system of crash-responsive NECK-PRO head restraints which are fitted as standard. Even more exciting is the new PRE-SAFE anticipatory occupant protection system which detects serious risks of an accident and prepares to deploy airbags and other safety features, giving you the confidence to drive safely.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has been designed with the driver firmly in mind, striking a great balance between total luxury and formidable power. The car handles like a dream on all road surfaces and in both wet and dry weather conditions. If you're in the market for a grand tourer, or just want to find out what's got motorists so excited, you need to get in touch with your local dealership and book yourself a test drive just as soon as you can!
Against a field of 11 competitors for the coveted 2013 Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year® award, one clear winner stood above the rest, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. In Motor Trend’s annual weeklong SUV battle royale, Sport/Utility offerings from various manufacturers are put through a battery of tests, outlining six criteria that provide objective insight into scoring the best of the best.
The six key criteria comprising the competition are Design Advancement, Engineering Excellence, Performance of Intended Function, Efficiency, Safety, and Value, all playing important roles in selection of the vehicle worthy of the distinction. Scoring highest overall, the 2013 GL-Class, regardless of package or engine option, proved to do “more of what we expect an SUV to do” according to Motor Trend’s Frank Markus.
Available with a 240hp diesel V-6 in the GL350 BlueTEC, 362hp or 429hp biturbo gasoline V-8’s in the GL450 and GL550 respectively, matched to a reengineered paddle-shift 7-speed automatic transmission providing smoother shifting and higher efficiency, all available packages were tested, and were collectively impressive throughout the competition. For those looking for efficiency, the BlueTEC equipped model returned an impressive 18.5mpg, besting several competitors equipped with smaller, less powerful engine options.
Beyond power and off-road capability, the GL-Class didn’t disappoint on the open road either. Drives down the highway and through winery roads, used as the proving grounds for testing, gave testers seat time to enjoy the beautifully engineered chassis and suspension. According to Motor Trend’s Mike Floyd, the 2013 GL-Class provides “An ueber-smooth ride, even in sport mode. You just float down the highway on a cloud and in silence.”
Hearing the glaring accolades from these seasoned testers can surely give you a sense of what Motor Trend’s 2013 Sport/Utility of the Year®, the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, has to offer, but the easiest way to understand what makes the GL-Class experience marvelous, is to simply get behind the wheel and enjoy it for yourself. Worth, or Grapevine, or on our website at www.ParkPlaceTexas.com.

with The Boardroom Salon for Men
Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.9 Million ‘Mo Bros’ and ‘Mo Sistas,’ as they are called, to participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Czech Republic and in the United States.
On a more local level, The Boardroom Salon for Men has spearheaded the initiative in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. With nine locations, The Boardroom has strived to bring all acting participants together in one, unified front to raise awareness.
To raise awareness for what, you ask? Just what, exactly, is Movember?
Movember is the moving force and philanthropic effort that inspires the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces during the month of November in the US, and around the world. With their Mo's, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.
“We are extremely excited to be a part of this movement,” said Bruce Schultz, founder and CEO of The Boardroom. “Men’s health issues are a great concern to us and our clients. We are passionate about our involvement and willing to go the extra mile to help raise awareness for this cause and strongly encourage anyone willing and able to participate, men and women alike.”
The Boardroom believes in the Movember movement and together pushes to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment.
Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Although most cases are in older men, the choices made now can greatly reduce the risk.
If you have never had the opportunity to visit a Boardroom Salon, they strive to deliver the ultimate relaxed grooming experience for men while providing exceptional haircuts, hot lather shaves, facials, massages, coloring, hand grooming, foot grooming, face and body waxing in an elegant country club environment.
The Boardroom combines the community and nostalgia of a 1920s old timey country club barbershop. It’s a masculine salon where men can relax, unwind and confidently enjoy a high quality haircut, shave or spa service.
In addition, The Boardroom is offering their signature Benchmark service for the price of an Express cut for donating participants. At the end of the month, Movember participants are invited to gather at any of their nine locations, be eligible for awards, compare and shave their mo’s.

For many of us, the longest relationship we’ve ever had is with our car. And, we don’t want it to end any time soon. It’s not just that you love your car, but let’s face it, buying a new car is expensive. Getting another hundred thousand miles out of the old girl sounds like sweet music to your ears. If you start early enough and stick with it, extending the lifetime of your car is easier than you think.
1. Oil: Think with your dipstick
Oil is the lifeblood of your car. If you want to keep your engine running smoothly, you need to keep an eye on your oil. Thanks to new formulations in motor oil, you don’t have to change it nearly as often as you used to. Unless you have an old classic or old clunker, every 6,000 to 7,000 miles should suffice. Don’t forget to change the oil filter too. Keeping nasty deposits out of your engine doesn’t just extend its life; it gives you better gas mileage too. To stay on top of it, check your oil every few hundred miles.
2. Coolant: Remember to flush
Just like us, cars don’t like to be too hot or too cold. If you don’t keep an eye on your coolant levels, your car can overheat. Serious or repeated overheating can lead to expensive engine repairs. If it’s been more than a few years, you should flush the system and refill with fresh coolant.
3. Air Filters: Cars deserve clean air, too
Changing your car’s air filters is one the simplest and least expensive ways to extend its life. Your car’s air filters keep harmful particles from getting into your engine and gumming up the works. Even the smallest little bit of dirt, if left to its own dirty devices can do serious damage to an engine.
4. Tires: Where the rubber meets the road
One of the easiest ways to get more out of your car is keeping your tires properly inflated and the wheels aligned. Improperly inflated tires or misaligned wheels will cause your tires to wear unevenly and put stress on your suspension. Check your tires for wear or perform a simple test to see if your wheels are out of whack. Find a flat stretch of road. Drive down it with your hand resting gently on the wheel. If you’re about to veer, it’s time to steer…your way to the mechanic for an alignment.
5. Interior/Exterior: She’s still a looker
When it comes to your car, it’s okay to be vain. Keeping your car’s interior and exterior looking good isn’t just about style; it’s about protecting your investment. Taking time to protect the paint job with frequent washing and waxing and keeping stains to a minimum will help your car hold its value.
6. Maintenance: Time for a check-up
Follow your car’s maintenance schedule, and take your car in for regular maintenance. It might seem like overkill, but the money you spend keeping your car healthy can save you tons down the road. Keep all of the receipts; they’re important to any potential buyer. And, be sure to address any problems early. The longer you wait the worse and more expensive they become.
